A mix of theatrical performance, expressive dance, and bodily gestures that convey inner human energy and movement-based storytelling. This is what the audience of the play "Adrenaline" will experience on the opening night of the second Monodrama Festival, which is part of the 2024 Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts. The play will be performed at the Royal Cultural Center on the night of July 27 at 8 PM.

The story of "Adrenaline" revolves around a woman diagnosed with breast cancer who undergoes a mastectomy. Throughout her treatment journey, the protagonist recalls her memories and the challenges she has faced since her teenage years, including her displacement from her homeland to another country, and the memories of her son Bahr, who was lost to the sea during an illegal migration.

The play addresses societal cancers, such as the perception of women as sources of temptation, the cancer of betrayal, and the cancer of intellectual and religious terrorism. According to Jordanian artist Asma Mustafa, who portrays the protagonist and wrote the play, the performance relies on body language and explores the Butoh dance—a form of protest dance that involves sculpting the muscles and exposing the harsh reality to return to nature and listen to the inner world.

Asma Mustafa is a well-known actress and playwright who has played various roles in her artistic career, including "Five Dolls and a Woman," "Cinderella," "How We Get Our Names Back," "The Gasp of Clay," "Woman's Mirror," "The Onion Cellar," and "The Gang of Dalila and Mercury." She also directed the play "Salima," which discusses the issue of a woman sacrificing her life to save others, blending music, poetry, and body language.

It is noteworthy that "Adrenaline" was produced in 2018 and has been showcased at numerous Arab festivals, such as Carthage, Marrakech, Cairo, and Babylon, as well as at various theaters in several festivals.
