Amman - Captain Haitham Misto, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission, announced on Wednesday evening that Jordan has granted permits for the resumption of flights from Sana'a to Amman starting Thursday, after a suspension that lasted nearly a month.
Speaking to "Al-Mamlaka," Misto mentioned, "arrangements for the return of flights from Sana'a to Amman starting tomorrow (Thursday)," explaining that "the permits have been granted" to Yemen Airways for the return of flights from Sana'a to Amman starting on the 25th of this month.
Flights between the two cities have been suspended since June 19, with a weekly average of about 6 flights at that time, according to Misto.
However, Misto expects the number of flights to double, saying, "We expect a doubled number of flights at a rate of about 3 flights daily until the demand for travel from Sana'a to Amman is met," noting that many travelers are still waiting for the flights to resume.
Yemen Airways has been granted the "right to operate" the flights, Misto mentioned, stating that the company "requested to operate a large number of flights" after the suspension period.
Misto said, "The return will be with high momentum, we expect at least 2 to 3 flights daily until the demand decreases to its natural limits," relying on information from Yemen Airways.
The demand for flights will continue with high momentum for at least a month, as Misto explained.
He noted that the purposes of travelers coming from Sana'a to Amman "vary, including coming for treatment or transferring to other cities via Queen Alia International Airport."
On Wednesday, Jordan welcomed the announcement by the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, reaching an agreement leading to a de-escalation of the months-long crisis over the banking sector and the resumption of Yemen Airways flights.
