As part of the active events of the Jordanian Writers and Authors Union in the 2024 Jerash Festival, the National Library hosted a seminar titled "Media Serving the Nation's Causes." Participants included writer and political thinker Hamada Faraaneh, Dr. Fayez Al-Dajjeh, and Dr. Hussein Al-Khuzai. The seminar was moderated by the Union's president, Aliyan Al-Adwan, who welcomed the participating political thinkers and media writers. He stated, "This evening in Jerash, we discuss media serving the nation at a historical festival that carries heritage and civilization, with a group of elite thinkers, as we stand with the Palestinian people in our positions, under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, who supports the Palestinian cause, our central issue, and gives additional prestige and value to this version of the Jerash Festival. We included in our cultural program a seminar to discuss his pivotal role in this knowledge and culture-filled Jerash festival."
Faraaneh opened the seminar discussing many key stages that highlighted the importance of Jordanian-Palestinian support, stating, "The topic is large and deep, with critical milestones in this entrenched relationship between the Jordanian and Palestinian peoples, providing support and backing as Jordan stands as a supportive pillar for the Palestinian people, also protecting Jordanian national security from another angle, as the Israeli enemy with its colonial project targets the entire Arab homeland."
Faraaneh emphasized that Jordan played the primary role in the Palestinian resurgence since the late King Hussein hosted the nucleus of the Palestinian National Council and held it on Jordanian soil. Among the significant milestones were the Battle of Karameh and the Jordanian Arab Army, which dispelled the myth of the Zionist army with a victory that bolstered Palestinian morale. King Abdullah II's leadership witnessed many phases confronting U.S. policies supporting the enemy, most recently efforts to thwart the Deal of the Century, providing all forms of support in the fierce war on Gaza.
Dr. Fayez Al-Dajjeh spoke about rumors and toxic media, highlighting national efforts to combat rumors and the latest global scientific efforts and studies to mitigate the effects of media, especially social media. He pointed out that security-related rumors ranked first, with 24 rumors accounting for 32%, showing an increase of 14 rumors compared to May's security rumors. Social field rumors climbed from third place in May to second in June with 17 rumors, representing 23%.
He affirmed that economic rumors jumped from 5 in May to 15 in June, representing 20%. The monitoring process tracked the source of rumors spreading through media and public publishing platforms, particularly social networks, emphasizing that the increase in rumors and media freedom contributed to the collective Jordanian awareness and rejection of any national efforts' defamation, ensuring citizens' right to know what is happening.
Dr. Hussein Al-Khuzai concluded the seminar with a paper on King Abdullah II's role in supporting the Palestinian cause. He recalled His Majesty's speech in the U.S. Congress on the central Middle East issue, the Palestinian cause, as if predicting that if the issue is not resolved and legitimate rights restored to the Palestinian people on their entire national soil with Jerusalem as their recognized eternal capital, this cause will constitute a humanitarian catastrophe for the entire region. He emphasized the need to support His Majesty in his constant efforts to highlight the Palestinian cause in all international forums, despite the evident injustice by all international bodies, courts, and organizations against the Palestinian cause, and the unfairness from all U.S. presidents to date. Jordan has been the main supporter of defending Palestine since its occupation, evident through the royal vision, speeches, and movements on all international and Arab levels.
At the seminar's conclusion, Aliyan Al-Adwan presented appreciation certificates to the participants in the Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts in its current session.
