Middle East Airlines Chairman Mohammed El-Hout clarified the reason behind the delayed return of flights to Beirut Airport. He stated, "The delay of early morning flights to Beirut until tomorrow is due to our preference to avoid having a large number of planes at the airport simultaneously."
El-Hout added, "There is no information indicating a strike targeting the airport, and there is no cause for fear."
Earlier, Middle East Airlines announced the postponement of some flights to Beirut from the evening of July 28, 2024, to the morning of July 29, 2024, according to a specific schedule.
In a related event, 12 people were killed and about 30 others injured, some seriously, on Saturday when a rocket fell in the town of Majdal Shams in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
The Israeli army blamed "Hezbollah" and vowed a harsh response, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stating that "Hezbollah will pay a heavy price... a price it has not paid until now."
Hezbollah denied involvement in the Majdal Shams attack.
Meanwhile, Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib warned that any major Israeli attack would lead to a regional war, noting that "Lebanon has asked Washington to urge Israel to exercise restraint amid recent tensions, while the United States has asked the Lebanese government to rein in Hezbollah."
