When talent meets knowledge, the result is an artist capable of delivering various types of refined music. This is what the audience at the Jerash Festival realized when they met the Emirati singer Fatima Al-Hashemi for the first time on the northern stage of Jerash in its 38th session.
Al-Hashemi managed to captivate the audience with her operatic performance and her deep choices in a musical style that blends the delicacy of voice with the elegance of performance. Accompanied by the orchestra under the baton of Maestro Fadel Hamidi, she performed many beloved songs for the audience, including "Ya Zahra Fi Khayali" by composer Farid al-Atrash, "Ana Qalbi Dalili" by singer Laila Mourad, "Ya Habibi Taala Alhaqni" by singer Asmahan, and other songs.
Al-Hashemi's talent, considered an "Emirati artistic icon," began early in childhood when she found herself drawn to operatic style, which some consider an elite genre. However, Fatima Al-Hashemi made it accessible to the general listening public.
She also participated in international festivals and performed distinctive songs, including "L'amour" by Georges Bizet, "O Sole Mio" by Eduardo di Capua, known for its romantic melody, and "Bella Ciao," which carries a folkloric character. Fans also recognized her through songs beloved by the audience, including "Ya Aashiqat Al-Ward" by Zaki Nassif.
It is worth mentioning that Fatima Al-Hashemi is the first Emirati mezzo-soprano, representing the United Arab Emirates since 2009 in cultural and diplomatic events worldwide. She has sung in many significant theaters and venues with professional orchestras, won several piano and singing competitions, and obtained a degree in music from Trinity College in London. She has received classical training and sings in various languages and styles.
