On Wednesday, Jordan strongly condemned Israel’s assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement in Palestine (Hamas), in Tehran, Iran. Jordan considers the assassination a violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and an escalatory crime that will lead to more tension and chaos in the region.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi stated on the platform (X): “We strongly condemn Israel’s assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh. It is a heinous crime and a blatant violation of international law.”
He added, “Israel’s continued aggression on Gaza, its violation of Palestinian rights, and its crimes against them without international action to curb its aggression will drag the region into more wars and destruction.”
Official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ambassador Sufian Qudah, reaffirmed Jordan’s firm stance against violating the sovereignty of states and international law, and in condemning political assassinations, violence, and terrorism regardless of their motives.
Qudah emphasized the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities and take immediate measures to stop Israeli aggression on Gaza and Israel’s violations of international law and UN resolutions, to protect the region’s security and stability from the catastrophic consequences of continued Israeli aggression on Gaza, and the exacerbation of its violations of Palestinian rights and crimes against them.
Qudah expressed Jordan’s condolences to the brotherly State of Palestine and its people, and to the family of Haniyeh and his companion.
The official spokesperson also condemned the Israeli aggression on the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on Tuesday, and Israel’s continuous violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
He warned that these crimes will only lead to dragging the region towards expanded war and threatening regional and international peace and security.
