Jordan Trade Chamber Calls for Expedited Issuance of Renewable Energy Exemption System
Traders and importers in the electricity and electronics sector have called for the swift issuance of the renewable energy exemption system, under the amended Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Law of 2024, in consultation with the Jordan Chamber of Commerce and representatives from the electricity sector.
During a meeting last night at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce headquarters, they also requested that the period granted under the law for issuing the regulatory instructions be extended to six months instead of three, which expires at the end of this month.
The attendees emphasized the necessity of completing the transactions meeting the conditions at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources that were made before June 1st of this year, pointing to what they described as "slow processing, affecting the supply chain and the kingdom’s stock of energy-saving goods."
The attendees affirmed their commitment to importing high-quality, energy-efficient electrical devices and supplies that meet the interests of citizens and consumers.
Recently, the Cabinet approved exempting renewable energy systems, devices, and equipment, as well as energy efficiency and production inputs meeting the technical specifications in force under Regulation No. 13 of 2015, from customs duties and general sales tax for 90 days from the effective date of the amended Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Law.
Khalil Al-Haj Toufic, President of the Chamber, expressed the Chamber’s commitment to addressing issues affecting the commercial and service sectors with the concerned authorities to facilitate their operations and overcome any difficulties they face.
He added that the challenges facing the national economy due to the aftermath of the Israeli aggression on the people of Gaza require swift and effective measures to accelerate commercial activity, noting that the Jordan Chamber of Commerce is following up with various official bodies on the instructions related to the amended Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Law of 2024.
Hatem Al-Zaabi, the Chamber's representative for the electricity and electronics sector, stated that the Cabinet’s decision to extend the granted period by three months came at a crucial time, expressing hope that this will help overcome the disruption faced by the sector due to delays in issuing the new energy-saving device instructions.
He pointed out the existence of "some bureaucratic procedures delaying traders and importers’ transactions," stressing that this does not align with the government's approach to facilitate procedures and commercial sector operations.
Al-Zaabi emphasized the importance of clear new instructions to allow sector workers to arrange import operations, noting a 50 percent decline in sector sales since the beginning of the year due to weak purchasing power in the local market.
Dr. Mohammad Al-Daddou, President of the Association of Companies Working in Renewable Energy and Energy Management, called for the expedited issuance of new regulations and instructions related to energy-saving devices, supporting the sector, which is a significant contributor to the national economy.
