The Amman Chamber of Commerce signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Department of Statistics, aimed at developing and enhancing their collaborative relationship in the exchange of information and statistical data. The agreement also covers the preparation of specialized research and reports on various sectors, and the improvement of the quality and comprehensiveness of statistical outputs related to the commercial and service sectors.
The MoU, signed by Khalil Al-Hajj Tawfiq, President of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, and Dr. Haider Fraihat, Director General of the Department of Statistics, also aims to strengthen joint cooperation in developing economic indicators to track the performance of the trade and service sectors across various developmental fields.
In a statement issued by the Chamber on Saturday, Al-Hajj Tawfiq emphasized the importance of this MoU in achieving the Chamber's goals, finding solutions to the problems or challenges facing the commercial and service sectors, and building proposals based on studies grounded in accurate and up-to-date data from a trusted source. This, in turn, supports the formulation of public policies and the provision of practical recommendations to stakeholders.
He noted that the MoU reflects the Chamber's commitment to supporting and strengthening its strategic partnership with various government entities and civil society institutions, particularly the Department of Statistics. This collaboration is expected to enhance joint efforts and develop areas of statistical information exchange.
Al-Hajj Tawfiq added that the cooperation with the Department of Statistics is part of the Chamber's broader strategy to expand its strategic partnerships and establish systematic methods of work that achieve statistical integration. This includes building specialized systems for business community and private sector data in the capital, leveraging the expertise of both institutions in providing and analyzing data, which will contribute to in-depth studies and the development of indicators that provide a broader understanding of the Jordanian economy and track its performance across different economic sectors.
Dr. Fraihat, in turn, expressed the Department's commitment to ongoing development, modernization, and intensified cooperation with all relevant parties, noting that such cooperation is among the most critical requirements of the current stage. In line with these efforts, the Department has signed a series of MoUs with key entities involved in shaping the roadmap toward building an integrated statistical system.
He added that this MoU with the Amman Chamber of Commerce aims to enhance cooperation and mutual benefit between the two parties and lays the foundation for collaborative and coordinated efforts that support the national statistical system and improve the quality of statistical outputs.
Fraihat also pointed out that this MoU aligns with the Department's efforts to launch the National Interactive Data Center, which responds to the public sector modernization roadmap and the global trend towards moving away from traditional methods of data collection and analysis. The Department is adopting modern global methodologies in publishing statistical outputs at the lowest possible cost and through the fastest possible methods.
Fraihat mentioned the pilot launch of the interactive data center, which allows smart access to data, aiming to provide technology that makes statistical data more accessible to the public.
It is worth noting that the Department of Statistics is the main government body responsible for collecting and publishing official statistical information and data, supporting policymakers and decision-makers in developing appropriate future plans and making sound decisions. Meanwhile, the Amman Chamber of Commerce strives to elevate the representation of the commercial sector, reflecting its size and importance by collecting and analyzing data, conducting specialized studies, and tracking Jordan's performance on local and international indicators to maximize the commercial and service sectors' contribution to comprehensive economic development.
The signing ceremony was attended by Nabil Al-Khatib, First Vice President of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Taysir Maqdadi, Assistant Director-General for Technical Affairs at the Department of Statistics, Hosni Al-Dajjah, Director of Public Relations and International Cooperation, and Hisham Al-Duweik, Director-General of the Chamber.
