Amman - Hamas expressed "astonishment" at the statements made by U.S. President Joe Biden on Tuesday, in which he claimed that the movement is backing out of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
In a press statement, Hamas said, "We, in the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), followed with great astonishment and condemnation the statements made by President Biden, in which he alleged that the movement is retreating from the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, hours after his Secretary of State Blinken called on the movement to accept the latest proposal."
The statement continued, "In this context, we affirm that Biden's and Blinken's statements are misleading allegations that do not reflect the reality of the movement's commitment to achieving a cessation of aggression."
Hamas further stated, "These statements come within the framework of the complete American bias towards the Zionist occupation and their full partnership in the aggression and genocide against unarmed civilians in the Gaza Strip, as well as attempts to eliminate our national cause."
The movement added, "We consider these statements a renewed American green light for the extremist Zionist government to commit more crimes against unarmed civilians, aiming for genocide and the displacement of our people."
Hamas also pointed out that "the recent proposal presented to the movement represents a reversal of what was agreed upon by the parties on July 2nd, based on Biden's own declaration on May 31st and UN Security Council Resolution 2735 on June 11th. This reversal is seen as a response to and compliance with the new conditions of the terrorist Netanyahu and his criminal plans against Gaza."
The statement mentioned, "The mediators in Qatar and Egypt are well aware that the movement has dealt with all previous negotiation rounds positively and responsibly, and that it has always been Netanyahu who obstructed reaching an agreement by imposing new conditions and demands."
Hamas reaffirmed, "Our commitment to what we agreed upon with the mediators on July 2nd, based on Biden's declaration and the Security Council resolution, and we call on the mediators to take responsibility and compel the occupation to accept it."
The statement concluded by urging the U.S. administration to "reconsider its blind support for Zionist war criminals, lift its political and military cover for the genocidal war being waged by the fascist occupation army against our unarmed people in Gaza, and work seriously to stop it."
Earlier today, U.S. President Joe Biden stated that Hamas is "backing out of the proposed truce with Israel," which aimed to release hostages held in Gaza and end the ongoing conflict in the region for more than 10 months.
Speaking to reporters at Chicago Airport after delivering a speech at the Democratic National Convention, Biden said, "The proposed settlement is still on the table, but nothing can be predicted."
He added, "Israel says it can reach a resolution... Hamas is now backing out."
