During the Silver Jubilee graduation ceremony at Middle East University (MEU), Dr. Yaacoub Nasereddin, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, emphasized that this critical phase in the nation's history is a continuation of centuries of contributions to human civilization, especially in science, literature, and values. The event, held under the patronage of Dr. Nasereddin, was attended by Dr. Sana’ Shaqoura, Chair of the Board of Directors, Professor Salam Al-Mahadin, University President, members of the Board of Trustees, the Deans Council, cultural attachés, local leaders, faculty, administrative staff, and the graduates' families.
The graduation coincided with the 25th anniversary of His Majesty King Abdullah II's ascension to the throne, celebrating the university's role as part of Jordan's achievements under his wise leadership.
Dr. Nasereddin highlighted that this graduation aligns with the celebration of the Silver Jubilee of King Abdullah II's reign, during which Jordan has seen substantial accomplishments across all sectors. He noted that the King has made the Jordanian individual the focal point of all strategic planning and future visions, with education as a top priority. He emphasized that this approach has enabled Jordan to overcome challenges through solid determination, proper planning, and national dialogue, as outlined in the King's discussion papers and initiatives, leading to comprehensive reforms and progress towards Jordan's centennial.
He also pointed out that King Abdullah II has directed efforts towards empowerment—particularly for youth and women—stressing that Jordan's strength lies in its capacity for change and modernization, and in broadening public participation in decision-making.
University President Dr. Salam Al-Mahadin stated that MEU is also approaching its 20th anniversary, having achieved rapid progress characterized by seriousness, commitment, and continuous development. She mentioned that recent years have seen the university fully transition to qualitative and applied learning through an integrated strategy, expected to complete its first phase by 2025, which includes accelerating international accreditation and improving global rankings.
Dr. Al-Mahadin emphasized the university's understanding of the crucial role technological advancements play in society, setting a strategic goal to incorporate digital courses across all academic programs, gradually shifting from traditional specializations to those focused on the digital dimension in all fields of natural sciences, humanities, health sciences, and business. She added that MEU believes that modern learning methods that foster continuous learning, creative and innovative thinking, and equip students with entrepreneurial skills have replaced the traditional role of universities as mere classrooms providing knowledge for employment.
She also noted that in recent years, MEU has made significant strides in scientific and research projects that align with national priorities, helping the university achieve notable positions in various rankings. Additionally, the university has intensified its efforts to serve the local community through volunteer work and student participation in activities that have a positive impact both locally and nationally.
A number of students delivered speeches in Arabic and English, expressing their gratitude to their homeland and their commitment to continuing its development into the second centennial. They emphasized that their academic achievements were a direct result of the vibrant educational environment, reflecting the profound influence the university has had in shaping their futures, preparing them to be leaders, influencers, and contributors to society's progress.
This year's graduating class includes the 18th cohort of master’s degree students, the 4th cohort of postgraduate diploma students, and the 15th cohort of bachelor’s degree students for the academic year 2023/2024.
