On September 16, 2024, at 10:17 AM, Ram - Brigadier General Mustafa Al-Hiyari, Director of Military Media, announced that the Jordanian Armed Forces have begun preparations to launch a specialised women's hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
In a press conference held near Sheikh Hussein Bridge on Monday, he explained that the hospital will include most women’s medical specialities, such as surgery and obstetrics. The opening date will be announced once preparations are complete.
Al-Hiyari also noted that Jordan’s field hospitals in southern Gaza have handled more than 175,000 cases since the war began, starting their operations on November 20, 2023.
On Monday, mobile clinics, as part of the "Restoring Hope" initiative to support amputees in Gaza, crossed Sheikh Hussein Bridge to join the Jordanian field hospital in Khan Younis. This comes in response to the unprecedented number of injuries resulting from the ongoing war in Gaza.
On August 26, under royal directives, the Royal Medical Services launched the Jordanian initiative "Restoring Hope" to support amputees in Gaza. This initiative responds to the rising number of war injuries in Gaza, leading to a significant increase in life-saving limb amputations, overwhelming Gaza’s hospitals.
In an earlier statement, Al-Hiyari mentioned that the initiative aims to fit thousands of prosthetic limbs, with medical estimates expecting more than 14,000 amputees to benefit from the programme.
