Hezbollah announced on Tuesday the launch of a "wide-scale investigation" to determine the reasons behind simultaneous explosions of communication devices carried by its members in various Hezbollah strongholds across Lebanon.
In a statement, the party said, "Hezbollah's specialised units are currently conducting an extensive security and scientific investigation to uncover the causes behind these simultaneous explosions. Meanwhile, medical and health teams are treating the wounded and injured in several hospitals across different Lebanese regions."
Lebanese Health Minister Firas Al-Abyad announced that eight people were killed as a result of the explosions.
In a press conference in Beirut, Al-Abyad stated, "The emergency operations room at the Ministry of Public Health has recorded around 2,750 injured, with over 200 in critical condition."
Hezbollah also reported the deaths of two of its members due to the explosions.
The party's statement added, "At approximately 3:30 PM on Tuesday, several pager-like message-receiving devices, used by Hezbollah personnel in various units and institutions, exploded. These mysterious explosions, whose causes are still unknown, have resulted in the death of a young girl and two brothers, as well as injuring a significant number of others."
