Jordan is hosting a meeting on Wednesday for the Arab-Islamic ministerial committee tasked with international efforts to stop the war on Gaza, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During its coordination meeting, the committee will discuss joint Arab-Islamic actions during the high-level week of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, set to be held this month in New York, as part of its efforts to end the Israeli aggression on Gaza, halt the unprecedented humanitarian disaster it is causing, ensure the adequate delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, stop the serious Israeli escalation in the occupied West Bank, and prevent violations of the legal and historical status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, as well as de-escalate the regional situation.
The Arab-Islamic ministerial committee was formed by a resolution from the extraordinary joint Arab-Islamic summit held in Riyadh on November 11 of last year. It was tasked with launching immediate international efforts on behalf of all member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League to develop a global initiative to stop the war on Gaza and push for the launch of a serious and genuine political process to achieve lasting and comprehensive peace in accordance with internationally recognised frameworks.
The committee, chaired by the Saudi Foreign Minister, includes the State of Palestine, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the State of Qatar, the Republic of Turkey, the Republic of Indonesia, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, and the Secretary-General of the OIC.
Since its formation, the committee has conducted fourteen visits to the capitals of permanent members of the UN Security Council and European capitals, holding meetings with heads of states, governments, and foreign ministers to mobilise international support for ending the war on Gaza, protecting civilians, sustaining the adequate and continuous delivery of humanitarian aid across the Gaza Strip, and taking effective steps to implement the two-state solution.
