Hezbollah officially mourned the death of senior leader Ibrahim Aqil late Friday night after he was targeted by an Israeli airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon’s capital.
In a statement, the party said, "Ibrahim Aqil has joined his brothers among the great martyr leaders after a blessed life filled with jihad, struggle, wounds, sacrifices, dangers, challenges, achievements, and victories. He was always worthy of this high divine honor."
Lebanon's Ministry of Health reported that 14 people were martyred as a result of the Israeli strike on the southern suburbs.
The Israeli occupation army confirmed on Friday that it does not seek a "widespread escalation" with Hezbollah.
A spokesperson for the Israeli army stated that Ibrahim Aqil, along with around 10 officials from Hezbollah's Radwan force, was targeted.
Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant declared that Israel's "enemies" would find no refuge, even in Hezbollah’s stronghold in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
