Amman – The absence of an Iranian response to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas' political bureau, in Tehran 40 days ago has sparked widespread controversy among supporters and critics of the Resistance Axis in the region.
Activists resurfaced previous statements that criticized what they described as Iran and Hezbollah’s "tactical retreat" in responding to the assassination.
The 20th September 2024 episode of "Above Authority", available in full on the Al Jazeera 360 platform, quoted some opposition voices as saying, "Iran did not even respond with a mourning ceremony (latmiya)," referring to the lack of a tangible reaction so far.
Meanwhile, Lebanon has witnessed a series of explosions targeting Hezbollah communication devices in Beirut's southern suburbs, the Beqaa, and southern Lebanon, resulting in thousands of injuries. Hezbollah accused Israel of responsibility for the attacks and hinted at retaliation.
Sources reported that the targeted devices were part of a new shipment received by Hezbollah, suggesting that Israel's strike may have been an attempt to demonstrate its unique capabilities in carrying out complex intelligence operations.
On the other hand, in light of these developments, writer Ali Al-Ma'shni argued that a nation of Iran's stature and international position may have different calculations than the resistance factions it supports, which could explain the delay in responding to Haniyeh's assassination.
