Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah stated that Israel has grown bolder in breaking legal and ethical boundaries, noting that impunity never corrects itself. She remarked, "What we see here goes beyond complacency. When a red line isn't truly a red line, it becomes a green light, granting permission—and Palestinians are paying the highest price for this 'permission' to violate every standard."
During an interview with American network ABC News conducted by anchor Linsey Davis, Queen Rania emphasised that "this war is unprecedented in its scale and brutality. Gaza, which is a third the size of New York, has been bombed with more explosives than Dresden, Hamburg, and London combined throughout World War II."
She added, "Gaza is breaking all records in the worst possible ways: the highest rates of hunger, the largest number of children amputees, and the greatest destruction of civilian infrastructure."
Her Majesty highlighted that "the world operates with double standards. Israeli suffering is acknowledged, while Palestinian pain is normalised and even justified. At times, it seems Israel is the exception to every rule governing our world, while Palestinians are the exception to receiving universal human rights."
She posed the question, "Is it acceptable to use starvation as a weapon of war? To target aid convoys, shelters for civilians, and impose collective punishment? What does this mean for our world today? If the rule of law is undermined, can any country truly be held accountable for its actions?"
Her Majesty also expressed concern over "the dangerous escalation in Lebanon. The risk of regional escalation has now reached a critical level. Yesterday was the deadliest day, with around 500 Lebanese killed, while 600 people died last year."
She clarified, "No one stands to gain from such an escalation, and no one will teach the other a lesson." Adding that "the only true path to security in the region, for the people of Israel, and for Jews worldwide who are sometimes unfairly held responsible for the actions of this government, is through a just and comprehensive peace agreement."
Queen Rania concluded by urging the international community to act, pointing out that "expressions of concern or even calls for a ceasefire are meaningless as long as weapons continue to be supplied that kill civilians."
She affirmed that "the United States has military, economic, and diplomatic influence it can use with Israel, and it needs to start using it because the risks of escalation are extremely high now."
Her Majesty also noted that the root cause of this conflict did not begin on October 7th, concluding that past peace talks failed due to the lack of efforts to enforce international law and the absence of costs or consequences to deter the occupation. "That’s why Israel felt emboldened to build more settlements and seize more land."
