The Consumer Protection Department of the Central Bank of Jordan issued awareness messages to Jordanians, warning them against sharing personal information or e-wallet details with any individual or entity, even if requested by someone claiming to represent the bank or an institution.
The department emphasized that e-wallet companies do not contact customers by phone to request any financial or personal information.
It also urged citizens to visit the nearest branch of their e-wallet provider to personal data, avoiding potential fraud cases.
The department warned against sharing one-time passwords, noting that these are for personal use only and should not be shared with any third party.
Additionally, it recommended using strong and complex passwords, not sharing them with anyone, changing them regularly, and enabling two-factor authentication when available.
The department also advised against clicking on suspicious links that request personal or financial information under the pretext of updating e-wallet details.
Moreover, it encouraged users to download e-wallet apps only from official stores and avoid using untrusted applications.
Regarding messages or links asking for immediate wallet updates or actions, the department urged citizens to verify that such messages are from official sources before clicking any links.
Lastly, it advised against responding to unrealistic offers, such as instant winnings or large prizes, as these are often fraudulent attempts.
