At least 40 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured early Wednesday in an Israeli occupation assault on the city of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.
According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, medical teams retrieved the bodies of 40 martyrs, mostly women and children, and dozens of wounded following a ground incursion and airstrikes by Israeli forces targeting the southeastern areas of Khan Younis, specifically the Ma'an, Qizan al-Najjar, and al-Manara neighbourhoods.
The report added that the victims were from the al-Zard, al-Agha, Abu Taha, and al-Farra families.
The family of journalist Ahmad al-Zard said that several of their relatives were killed, including his brother, uncle, and cousins. Ahmad himself sustained severe injuries alongside his mother and brother. He was transferred to the European Hospital along with his mother and six other family members, most of whom are in critical condition.
Israeli forces have continued their assault on Gaza by land, sea, and air since October 7, 2023. So far, 41,638 Palestinians have been killed, and 96,460 have been injured, the majority of them women and children. Thousands remain missing under the rubble as casualty numbers continue to rise.
