Russia Today reported that satellite images published by the Associated Press reveal the complete destruction of Israel’s Nevatim Airbase, which hosts F-35 fighter jets, following an Iranian missile strike. The ballistic missile attack took place on 1 October, targeting the Nevatim Airbase among other key sites across Israel.
Nevatim is home to Israel’s fifth-generation F-35 fighter squadrons, with plans to host a third squadron in the future. The airbase was hit during the second wave of missile strikes on Israel, with Iran firing 200 Fattah hypersonic missiles.
Iranian state media confirmed that the missiles struck Nevatim, Hatzerim, and Tel Nof airbases, Israeli tanks in Netzarim – referencing a military corridor in central Gaza – and gas facilities in Ashkelon, southern Israel.
Nevatim Airbase, also known as Airbase 28, is one of the largest in Israel. Located southeast of Be'er Sheva, it houses stealth fighters, transport aircraft, refuelling planes, reconnaissance, and electronic surveillance equipment, as well as the new Israeli presidential plane, "Wing of Zion."
