Tarawneh: The workplace is no longer confined by time or location; legislative updates are essential
Remote and part-time work models present major challenges for social security
IT sector plays a key role in driving the digital economy and transitioning to new work models
The Information and Communications Technology Association of Jordan (int@j) held a dialogue session on Saturday with the Social Security Corporation's Director-General, Mohammad Tarawneh, alongside a broad representation from IT companies. The session focused on issues related to social security, the challenges facing the sector, and the need for legislative updates to accommodate evolving work models such as part-time and remote work.
Tarawneh emphasized the essential role of the IT sector in propelling the digital economy forward, noting the significant shifts in work patterns driven by digital transformation and artificial intelligence. He highlighted the challenge of including workers in non-traditional work models under the social security umbrella and the need to adapt the infrastructure to ensure the collection of contributions directly from individuals.
In response to the pandemic, Tarawneh also outlined previous social security measures aimed at mitigating the economic impact, stressing that the institution remains committed to long-term planning for future risks such as ageing, while continuing to facilitate payment solutions for companies behind on their contributions.
Amjad Suwais, Chairman of int@j, praised the Corporation's efforts in promoting economic and social stability and reiterated the importance of legislative reforms in addressing the growing prevalence of part-time and remote work both locally and internationally.
The event concluded with a discussion on the upcoming MENA ICT Forum, which will take place on November 20-21, providing a platform for further dialogue between IT companies and policymakers.
