Former MP Fayez Basbous sat down with Rum News Agency and Al Shahed Media Group for an open discussion about his political journey and experiences in and outside Parliament. He began by recounting his political start in 2013, leading to his election to Parliament in 2020.
Basbous expressed no surprise over his recent election loss, noting that the previous Parliament hadn’t yielded any clear benefits for him. He also revealed that his campaign cost him over 100,000 Jordanian dinars, jokingly adding, “If I had a million dinars, I wouldn’t have run for Parliament.”
Commenting on the Dead Sea incident, Basbous highlighted contradictions in statements from the Islamic Action Front, clarifying that the youth involved were not affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood. He affirmed, “The Jordanian state will not allow anyone to overpower it, and no one can bend its arm.”
Addressing political stances, Basbous underscored Jordan’s refusal of the “Deal of the Century” despite the tempting offers made to the country, praising the Hashemite leadership for this stance. He also expressed a desire to meet with Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan, commending his extensive economic expertise.
Basbous concluded his remarks with a message to an unnamed individual, saying, “Why were you against me?” He added, “If I had a gun, I’d shoot Netanyahu for killing Muslims—I truly wish I could.”
