Dr. Ahmed Ziyad Abu Ghanemeh
The alarming rhetoric by His Excellency MP Mazen Al-Qadi, a member of the Mithaq Party in parliament, during his interview on Al Mamlaka channel alongside MP Ahmed Al-Qatawneh of the Islamic Action Front, raises concerns about the future of democracy and the entire project of modernising the political system.
How can a political party claiming to represent the "state" speak with a "cake-sharing" mentality? By "cake," he was referring to the permanent office of the House of Representatives, where he claimed his party had reached an agreement with certain parliamentary blocs (how they reached this agreement is another story)—thus excluding the remaining blocs with a single stroke of a pen!
I genuinely cannot comprehend how a party that garnered around 94,000 votes in the general list can so confidently discuss excluding another party that secured 464,000 votes!
I hope that decision-making centres, which lifted the veil and removed the supports for parties associated with powerful forces within the "system" during the parliamentary elections—revealing their true popular weight in the ballot boxes—will continue these policies in the elections for the Speaker and the permanent office of the House of Representatives. Let the MPs have "complete freedom" to choose their Speaker and permanent office without interference or pressure from any side.
The continued rhetoric by certain parties acting as if they alone represent the Jordanian state must stop immediately, especially after election results revealed the true scale of these parties. The nation belongs to all of us, not just one faction over another.
In conclusion, at a time of intense local and regional political turmoil requiring unity and cohesion across all state institutions to confront the dangers we face, the nation is being spoken of as if it were a piece of cake, with each person getting their "slice"!
