Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel should reinstate the possibility of imposing its sovereignty over the West Bank, according to Israeli media reports.
The media indicated that Netanyahu's comments came during recent discussions, where he suggested that when the elected U.S. President, Donald Trump, assumes office, the issue of Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank should be brought back to the agenda.
Following Netanyahu's statement, far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich joined the call, instructing preparations to extend Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank.
Smotrich said during a party meeting in the Knesset: "There is now broad consensus in the coalition and opposition across the Knesset against the establishment of a Palestinian state, which would endanger the existence of Israel."
He added, "I hope that Israel will expand its sovereignty to include the West Bank by 2025."
Israeli Broadcasting Corporation claimed that "plans for annexation are ready to be implemented," noting that a team led by Minister Yariv Levin had prepared systems, orders, and a government decision in 2020 regarding this plan, including the construction of roads to all settlements, including illegal outposts, and annexing land areas to expand them.
