The Department of Cinematic, Television, and Theatrical Design at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Amman Al-Ahliyya University, in collaboration with the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation, hosted a screening of the Saudi short film Noor Shams, directed by Fayza Amba. The event, held last Wednesday at the Hourani E-Learning Auditorium, also featured a panel discussion with Saudi writer, critic, and host of the Cinemak programme, Mr Tarek Khawaji, who also serves as the cultural advisor for the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture.
The screening and discussion were attended by Mr Mohannad Ratrout, Head of Public Relations at the Shoman Foundation, and Dr Rana Al-Naqla, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Accreditation and Quality Assurance at the Faculty of Architecture and Design.
Dr Najwa Qandilqi, a faculty member in the Cinematic, Television, and Theatrical Design Department, moderated the discussion. The event saw active participation from students and faculty members, who engaged in discussions about the film and raised questions and comments. The dialogue also explored the state of Saudi cinema, the challenges of the cinematic labour market, and its future prospects.
