The Axios website has reported details of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad's flight from Damascus just before the capital fell.

According to an Israeli official cited by the site, Assad left Damascus at midnight and headed to a Russian military base in Syria, reportedly as a prelude to traveling to Moscow.

Various Hebrew media outlets quoted officials who stated they were unsure of Assad's whereabouts or whether he had indeed left the country.

Channel 12, citing unnamed Israeli officials, reported that it is not certain Assad fled Syria. Meanwhile, Walla News stated that an Israeli source claimed Assad flew from Damascus to Russia's Hmeimim airbase last night, intending to proceed to Moscow.

An unnamed U.S. official was also quoted, saying that American intelligence observed Assad departing the capital and believed he was planning to escape to Russia.

However, there are currently no concrete indications that Assad has left Syria.
