Aqaba is hosting Arab and international meetings today, Saturday, to discuss developments in Syria.
Initiated by Jordan, the meeting includes foreign ministers from the Arab Ministerial Liaison Committee on Syria—comprising Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, and the Arab League Secretary-General—alongside ministers from the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and the current Arab Summit chair.
Participating Arab ministers will also hold talks with foreign ministers from Turkey, the United States, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, and the UN envoy for Syria.
The discussions aim to support a comprehensive, Syrian-led political process to achieve a transition aligned with UN Security Council Resolution 2254, addressing Syrians' aspirations, rebuilding state institutions, preserving Syria’s unity and sovereignty, and ensuring security, stability, and citizens' rights.
According to Arab League spokesperson Jamal Rushdi, the league hopes to achieve a unified Arab stance that supports Syria during this challenging phase. Rushdi told Al-Mamlaka that the upcoming Jordan-hosted meeting seeks to present a collective position to "stand with the Syrians" at this critical juncture.
