More than 10,000 attacks on the main water lines and carriers, and 2,721 attacks on the King Abdullah Canal in the Ghor, were seized during the past year, according to Omar Salameh, spokesman for the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, on Wednesday.
Salama said, during the “After the News” program, that there are 86 violating wells that have been filled in, 10,002 attacks on the main and tanker water lines, and 8 rigs that have been seized carrying out violating drilling work in various regions.
And he indicated that the ministry removed 67 incidents of assault on the lands of the treasury, and there are 70 official cases that have been referred to the judiciary, in addition to 8 attacks on the lands of Khirbet al-Samra.
He pointed out that there are about 2.5 million dinars still due from water violations, and the ministry has collected about 6.5 million dinars.
He continued, "Some of the attacks may cost the removal and campaign hundreds of thousands of dinars, because we are in great need of mechanisms, security protection, and technical personnel that need support from special equipment, in addition to replacing damaged parts that are tampered with, and these cost the state treasury huge sums."
He said that since the launch of the campaign to tighten control, 1,275 violating wells that were draining large quantities of water have been filled, in addition to the attacks that have been removed from the King Abdullah Canal, which amounted to 26,824 attacks, and 2,563 attacks on state lands owned by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation.
He pointed out that there are 579 pending cases in the judiciary.
