Amman – The Middle East University (MEU) held a ceremony to light the Christmas tree on its campus, under the patronage of His Grace Christophoros Attallah, Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Church of Jordan. The event symbolised the message of peace, love, and coexistence, reflecting the values of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
During the event, His Grace Archimandrite Athanasios Qaqish, representing the Archbishop, extended heartfelt congratulations on the occasion to His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Jordanian people, who embody the spirit of coexistence. He emphasised that the birth of Jesus Christ is a call for peace, respect for religious freedom, acceptance of diversity, and the promotion of love and fraternity. He also highlighted the importance of justice, mercy, and equality in efforts to achieve peace.
Dr Yacoub Nasereddin, Chairman of the MEU Board of Trustees, underscored that the ceremony carries profound meanings and values of love and tolerance that distinguish the Kingdom under the wise Hashemite leadership. He praised His Majesty’s efforts in addressing humanitarian and national causes, presenting Jordan as a symbol of moderation, dialogue, and coexistence.
Dr Hamdi Murad noted that the occasion sends a powerful message of harmony to the world and Jordanians alike. He highlighted Jordan’s unique unity among its diverse components and recalled the Amman Message launched by His Majesty alongside initiatives such as "A Common Word" and the World Interfaith Harmony Week.
The ceremony included poetic and folkloric performances by students and the university choir, creating an atmosphere filled with joy and happiness. It was attended by national figures, faculty and administrative members, and students.
