The Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Amman Ahliyya University, Professor Dr. Hanan Ibrahim, participated in the First Forum for Deans of Arts Faculties in Jordanian Public and Private Universities. The event was held at the University of Jordan under the patronage of its President, Professor Dr. Nathir Obeidat.
Dr. Ibrahim, representing the deans of arts faculties in private universities, delivered a speech emphasizing the need to seriously reconsider the current status of arts faculties in the academic priorities of both public and private universities. She also highlighted the importance of focusing on the research published in the fields of social sciences and humanities.
She pointed out the unique challenges faced by arts faculties in private universities compared to their public counterparts and vice versa. Additionally, she outlined the advantages of private universities when managed strategically. For example, private universities primarily rely on tuition fees and some internal investments for funding, which provides them with greater flexibility to introduce globally and locally relevant programs and utilize modern facilities and technologies to meet market demands.
Dr. Ibrahim further discussed the differences between public and private universities in areas such as academic quality, student diversity, flexibility, innovation, curricula, modern specializations, and employment opportunities.
She also focused on the challenges facing arts faculties regarding scientific research. These include limited funding, weaknesses in research methodology among some scholars, and the shortage of globally recognized Arabic academic journals. Dr. Ibrahim stressed the need to launch more globally indexed Arabic journals dedicated to humanities and social sciences.
She called on relevant authorities to prioritize research fields within arts and humanities that align with global developments.
