Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi met on Tuesday with his Syrian counterpart, Assad Al-Shaibani, at the Foreign Ministry headquarters in Amman.

Safadi, alongside Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Major General Yousef Al-Huneiti, General Intelligence Directorate Chief Major General Ahmed Hosni, and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh, held extensive talks with a high-level Syrian delegation. The Syrian delegation, led by Al-Shaibani, included Defence Minister Marhaf Abu Qasra, General Intelligence Chief Anas Khattab, Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Ghiath Diab, and Minister of Electricity Omar Shaqrouq. Discussions covered strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in key areas such as borders, security, energy, transport, water, trade, and other vital sectors.

On Monday, Safadi affirmed Jordan's support for the Syrian people in securing a future that guarantees their rights and daily needs.

In a tweet on Friday, Assad Al-Shaibani, Syria's Foreign Minister under the new administration, announced his official visits to Qatar, the UAE, and Jordan, expressing hopes that these visits would foster stability, security, economic recovery, and robust partnerships.

During a press conference with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, Safadi emphasised Jordan's efforts to ensure the safe and dignified return of Syrian refugees, highlighting the interconnected security and stability of Syria, Jordan, and Turkey as neighbouring states.

He noted Jordan’s historical ties with Syria and its hosting of approximately 1.3 million Syrians during the crisis, while commending Jordan’s efforts to prevent chaos in southern Syria near its borders.

Safadi reiterated Jordan’s commitment to supporting "the new Syria" in fulfilling the rights of its people, stating: “The Syrian people deserve a dignified, safe, and stable life after years of suffering, marked by immense loss, destruction, displacement, and fear.”
