Jordanian Energy Minister Saleh Kharabsheh announced that a Jordanian technical team will travel to Syria on Thursday to evaluate the state of the Syrian power grid.
Kharabsheh highlighted ongoing collaboration between Jordan and Syria, including continuous meetings, the latest of which involved Syrian Electricity Minister Omar Shaqrouq.
On Tuesday, a bilateral meeting was held between Kharabsheh, Syrian Oil Minister Ghayath Diab, and Syrian Electricity Minister Omar Shaqrouq. Discussions focused on Syria’s energy needs during this critical phase.
Kharabsheh noted that Jordan’s section of the electrical interconnection line with Syria is ready, while the Syrian section will be assessed by the Jordanian team to determine the time required for repairs.
He also mentioned Jordan's readiness to supply Syria with natural gas via the floating regasification ship in Aqaba, using the Arab Gas Pipeline that connects the two countries. The pipeline within Syrian territory is reportedly operational and capable of delivering gas to power plants.
Regarding supplying electricity to the Naseeb crossing, Kharabsheh stated that most of the infrastructure is ready, with only minor technical work remaining.
Jordan is prepared to provide Syria with 250 megawatts of electricity immediately, once the Syrian side of the interconnection grid is operational.
Kharabsheh further emphasized that supplying electricity to Lebanon depends on repairing the grid in southern Syria, a project initiated in 2022 but not yet completed.
