Local authorities in Gaza have announced that Al-Rashid Street will be reopened for pedestrian crossing in both directions starting at 7:00 a.m. Monday. However, no vehicles of any kind will be permitted to use the coastal road, in accordance with the agreement. Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that Israeli forces have begun withdrawing from the Netzarim axis.
This development follows an announcement by Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majid Al-Ansari, regarding an agreement between Israel and Hamas. Under the deal, Hamas will release hostage Erbil Yehud and two other Israeli captives by Friday.
In return, Israel will allow displaced Palestinians in southern Gaza to begin returning to the northern areas starting Monday morning.
The Gaza Ministry of Interior stated that Salah Al-Din Street will also be opened to vehicles heading north from 9:00 a.m. Monday. All vehicles will be subject to inspection via scanning devices.
Al-Ansari confirmed via a post on "X" that Hamas will also release three additional Israeli captives on Saturday as part of the agreement, alongside providing details about the total number of captives to be freed in the first phase of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal.
According to the Qatari Foreign Ministry, Israel will also provide a list of 400 Palestinian prisoners arrested since October 7, releasing names every Sunday during the initial six-week phase of the agreement.
Hamas announced Sunday that it had delivered a list of captives to mediators, as outlined in the ceasefire agreement.
Palestinian sources revealed that the resistance in Gaza decided to increase the number of released Israeli captives, enhancing public morale and addressing the crisis of returning displaced persons to northern Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed that Gaza residents would be allowed to return northward starting Monday morning. The office also announced the upcoming release of Erbil Yehud, soldier Agam Berger, and another Israeli captive.
Israeli media reports indicated that the list of captives provided by Hamas aligns with Israeli records, confirming that most are alive. The list includes 18 living captives and 8 deceased individuals.
Palestinian media aired scenes of joyful displaced residents gathering on Al-Rashid Street after learning of the reopening.
Despite the agreement, Islamic Jihad's Deputy Secretary-General Mohammad Al-Hindi accused Israel of delaying the ceasefire implementation, criticizing the restrictions on Palestinians returning northward.
Israeli media confirmed that Erbil Yehud will be released Friday, while Israel will release 30 Palestinian prisoners sentenced to life.
The ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal, implemented on January 19, is in its first six-week phase. Saturday’s second exchange saw Hamas release four Israeli female soldiers in return for 200 Palestinian prisoners.
