The Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) concluded its participation in the FITUR 2025 exhibition, held in Madrid from 22 to 26 January, with a focus on strengthening tourism ties between Jordan and Spain. The Jordanian pavilion featured 20 local tourism offices, hotels, Royal Jordanian Airlines, and the Petra Development and Tourism Authority.
Key highlights included a press conference on 23 January, attended by over 35 Spanish media representatives, and 62 meetings with prominent Spanish travel agencies, airlines, and media outlets. The discussions emphasised boosting tourism between the two countries while showcasing Jordan's rich cultural and touristic offerings.
As part of the exhibition, a landmark twinning agreement was signed between Jordan’s "Camino de Egeria" route and Spain’s "Camino de Santiago." The agreement, signed at the Galicia Pavilion, aims to promote Christian religious and cultural tourism. The Tourism Minister of Galicia hailed the collaboration as a significant milestone for both regions.
Dr. Abdulrazzaq Arabiyat, Director General of the JTB, highlighted this agreement as pivotal in positioning Jordan as a prime destination for Spanish travellers seeking Christian religious experiences. He also announced the launch of the "Jordan: Dawn of Christianity" initiative, coinciding with the Vatican Jubilee, offering Spanish visitors the chance to explore Jordan’s significant Christian and historical sites.
Dr. Arabiyat underlined the importance of the Spanish market, noting the growing number of Spanish tourists drawn to Jordan for its unique blend of culture, nature, and local cuisine. He also stressed the significance of supporting Jordan’s rural communities through sustainable tourism.
Dr. Fares Breizat, head of the Petra Development and Tourism Authority, highlighted Petra’s historical importance and its unique blend of Nabatean, Hellenistic, Islamic, and Christian heritage. He reaffirmed Jordan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Spain through sustainable tourism strategies and support for rural communities.
The JTB’s pavilion also showcased Jordanian cuisine, attracting significant interest from visitors and reflecting a growing appreciation for Jordan’s culinary traditions.
FITUR, one of the world’s premier tourism exhibitions, serves as a vital platform for promoting destinations and exploring trends in the travel industry. Jordan’s strategic participation aims to bolster its global tourism profile, particularly in key European markets like Spain.
