Amman – Jan 30, 2025 – Adam Boehler, U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy for hostage affairs, stated that Egypt and Jordan must propose an alternative solution after rejecting the idea of accepting Palestinian refugees.
Speaking to Israel’s Channel 12, Boehler remarked, “If Egypt and Jordan refuse to take in Palestinians, they need to present a viable alternative.” He added that while Trump had put forward a proposal he deemed suitable for both countries, the U.S. remained open to other options.
Egypt, Jordan Reject U.S. Proposal
Trump recently expressed his desire to "cleanse" Gaza and confirmed plans to ask Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, as he did Jordan's King Abdullah II, to allow up to 1.5 million Palestinians from Gaza into Egyptian territory.
Both leaders firmly rejected the request. Sisi called the proposal an injustice Egypt could not be part of, reaffirming Cairo’s commitment to a historical stance on the Palestinian cause. “The solution is a Palestinian state with full rights, based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” Sisi stated during a press conference with Kenyan President William Ruto in Cairo.
Similarly, King Abdullah II reiterated Jordan’s “unwavering position” that Palestinians must remain on their land
