Jordan is set to experience a powerful cold front starting Wednesday, as a frigid air mass moves in alongside a low-pressure system centered over Cyprus, according to Raed Rafeed Al-Khattab, Director of the Meteorological Department.
Temperatures will significantly, with rain expected across most regions. Showers will begin in the north and center before spreading nationwide by evening. Heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, could trigger flash floods and rising water levels.
Strong westerly winds, reaching speeds of 70 km/h, will stir up dust storms, especially in desert areas. By Thursday, the cold air mass will intensify, keeping the weather very cold and overcast, with continued rain and a chance of mixed snow over high mountain peaks at dawn and early morning.
Al-Khattab warned of low visibility due to fog and dense clouds, as well as the risk of strong winds causing unsecured objects to fly. Wet roads may also lead to hazardous driving conditions.
The storm will gradually weaken by Thursday night, with rainfall decreasing and winds subsiding. However, nighttime temperatures will remain extremely low, with fog likely in some areas.
By Friday, conditions will stabilize, with cold and partly cloudy weather prevailing. However, nighttime temperatures will sharply, raising the risk of frost in higher elevations.
Al-Khattab urged caution on the roads, particularly in areas prone to dense fog and heavy rain. He emphasized the importance of following official weather updates, securing loose objects, and staying clear of flood-prone areas. The Meteorological Department will continue monitoring the situation, issuing updates as needed to ensure public safety.
