On Sunday, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, went to the Turkish city of Istanbul on a "short working visit" during which he would meet President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The official Qatar News Agency said, "The Emir of the country will discuss with the Turkish president bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and issues of common concern," without mentioning the duration of the visit.
The upcoming visit of the Qatari Emir comes two days before the scheduled visit of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu to Qatar next Tuesday, with the aim of preparing for the second meeting of the Qatar-Turkish Joint Strategic Committee.
A statement issued by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, earlier today, stated that Cavusoglu will focus during his talks in Doha on bilateral relations and ways to enhance them, in addition to discussing current international and regional developments.
It should be noted that the aforementioned committee was established after the Turkish President and the Emir of Qatar signed a joint memorandum of understanding in this regard, in the capital, Ankara, on December 19, 2014.
The first meeting of the committee was held during the visit of the Turkish President to Qatar in early December 2015 and lasted for two days.
The meeting witnessed the signing of 15 agreements to enhance cooperation between Ankara and Doha in various fields.
After the committee meeting, Erdogan also announced the cancellation of mutual entry visas between Turkey and Qatar.
The Turkish-Qatari relations witness "harmony and harmony" in the vision of regional issues, and there is consensus in the visions regarding many crises and issues that the region is witnessing at the present time.
The volume of trade exchange between Turkey and Qatar reached one billion and 300 million dollars last year, with expectations of an escalation of this volume, in light of the growing cooperation between the two countries.
