Gaza ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas faces imminent collapse as tensions escalate on multiple fronts.
U.S. President Donald Trump warned Hamas of “real hell” if it fails to release all Israeli captives. He threatened to call for the ceasefire’s cancellation if they are not freed by noon on Saturday and hinted at cutting aid to Egypt and Jordan if they refuse to take in Gaza refugees.
Hamas, in response, announced it would delay the prisoner release indefinitely, citing Israel’s failure to uphold key terms of the agreement, including allowing displaced Palestinians to return to northern Gaza and halting attacks across the strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted that Israel remains committed to the ceasefire but warned against any violations. Addressing the Knesset, he declared, “I returned from Washington with a vision: no Hamas and no Palestinian Authority in Gaza.” He emphasized that Trump supports Israel’s war objectives and vowed to continue military operations until they are fully achieved.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio challenged critics of Trump’s Gaza plan to propose alternatives. He blamed Palestinian leadership, not Israel, for obstructing the two-state solution.
Egypt, in a statement after a meeting between Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty and Rubio in Washington, rejected any forced displacement of Palestinians and stressed the need to rebuild Gaza with its people inside the territory.
Trump’s Controversial Proposal
Trump’s plan suggests handing U.S. control over Gaza to transform it into the “Riviera of the Middle East” while relocating Palestinians to countries like Egypt and Jordan. The proposal has faced widespread Arab and international condemnation, with critics calling it a blueprint for ethnic cleansing and a violation of international law.
Despite repeated rejections from Egypt and Jordan, Trump claimed they would eventually accept Gaza refugees. Egypt, however, is intensifying diplomatic efforts with Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE to reinforce Arab opposition to forced displacement, insisting on a two-state solution as the only viable path forward.
