The Council of Ministers has decided to exempt Syrian trucks entering Jordan from all fees, according to Yanal Barmawi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Barmawi said Tuesday that the exemption is based on the principle of reciprocity, as Syria has also waived fees on Jordanian trucks entering its territory.
He added that the decision follows mutual agreements between the two countries and reflects Jordan’s commitment to supporting Syria economically. The move aims to facilitate trade and cargo movement through the Jaber border crossing.
Jordan is keen to remove obstacles hindering trade and land transport between the two nations, Barmawi noted, emphasizing Amman’s genuine desire to aid Syria and improve economic conditions for its people.
Previously, Syrian authorities had scrapped all fees and stamps that were previously charged at the Jaber-Nassib crossing.
On January 26, Jordan and Syria held a meeting in Amman to discuss reactivating their free trade agreement, boosting bilateral trade, addressing challenges faced by the private sector, and easing transit truck fees on both sides.
