Under the patronage of the Director of Education for Al-Jami’a District, Abdul Hakim Al-Shawabkeh, and in the presence of representatives from the Jordanian National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science, as well as a representative of Dr. Maher Hourani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Schools Group and Amman Ahliyya University, Nadia Hourani, the general supervisor of the school group, University Schools First held the Fourth Sub-Regional Forum on the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in collaboration with the national commission. The event took place a few days ago at The Royal Hotel – Amman, with the participation of schools from Oman, Lebanon, and Jordan.
In his speech, Al-Shawabkeh emphasized the role of education in achieving sustainable development, while Lamis Hourani highlighted the importance of youth in building society.
Meanwhile, Amal Al-Ali pointed out the significance of discussing global issues within the MUN (Model United Nations) program, whereas Suad Ghazal explained how schools contribute to implementing the SDGs through the "Tales in Sustainable Development" project. This initiative is carried out by the Jordanian National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).
The project aims to enhance students' understanding of sustainable development concepts through school activities and projects, helping them grasp these ideas practically while developing their critical thinking and creativity to address global challenges.
The forum focused on three main themes: Industry and Innovation, Justice and Peace, and Reducing Inequality, featuring interactive discussion sessions. Additionally, the event highlighted the participation of schools in the "Tales in Sustainable Development" project.
At the closing ceremony, Nadia Hourani and the event patron honored supporting organizations, the organizing committee, and participating students in appreciation of their efforts in making the forum a success.
