Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, stated that today's meeting focused on the challenges facing Syria, the fight against terrorism, and ISIS.
During a joint press conference held on the sidelines of the meeting of Syria’s neighboring countries, which took place on Sunday in Amman, Safadi emphasized that the participants agreed on ensuring Syria’s security and rejecting any attempts to destabilize the country. He stated, "We collectively affirmed that Syria’s security and stability are essential for all of us."
He also mentioned that the neighboring countries agreed to combat drug smuggling from Syria and emphasized the need to support Syria in its reconstruction efforts.
Safadi announced that the second meeting of Syria’s neighboring countries will be held in Turkey next month, highlighting that these ongoing meetings aim to support Syria.
The discussions also covered the challenges Syria faces and a joint effort to combat ISIS. He added, "We called for lifting sanctions on Syria and for economic and investment cooperation to contribute to its reconstruction."
In response to a question from Al-Mamlaka about refugees, Safadi stated that the meeting addressed the voluntary return of Syrian refugees, noting, "We have 1.3 million Syrian refugees in the Kingdom." He stressed that the ultimate solution to the refugee crisis lies in their voluntary return to Syria and in creating suitable conditions for their safe repatriation.
