The Jordanian General Iftaa' Department issued 12,370 fatwas during the first week of Ramadan, according to department spokesperson Ahmed Al-Harasas.
Among these, 208 cases of divorce were finalized, while 575 were deemed invalid. Other fatwas included 896 personal consultations, 9,097 phone inquiries, 15 written questions, 80 SMS inquiries, 1,102 through the department’s website, 307 via Facebook, and 90 through radio programs.
Al-Harasas highlighted that anger, impulsiveness, lack of patience, family interference, disputes over social occasions, lack of awareness of marital rights and responsibilities, social media-related issues, mutual insults, and financial difficulties were the main causes of divorce and marital conflicts during this period.
The statistics, he noted, reflect Jordanian society’s commitment to religious guidance and public trust in the General Iftaa' Department. The department actively engages with the public through fatwa sessions, lectures at universities and mosques, and various media channels.
Additionally, the department’s programs on social media and traditional media platforms attracted over 22 million views, likes, and shares during the first week of Ramadan, showing strong public interest in its religious content.
