On Sunday night, the United States welcomed the commitment of the Israelis and Palestinians to "avoid any new acts of violence" during a meeting held in Aqaba, Jordan, noting that "implementation will be decisive," according to the Washington Post.
"We recognize that this meeting is a starting point and that there will be much work to be done in the coming weeks and months to build a stable and prosperous future for Israelis and Palestinians alike, and implementation will be critical," White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said in a statement.
In particular, Sullivan thanked the role played in recent weeks by His Majesty King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi "in ensuring the conditions for success" of the meeting.
This meeting is the first of its kind in years between the Palestinians and the Israelis, with regional and international participation, to discuss the situation in the Palestinian territories, in which it was agreed to meet again in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, next March 2023.
