Yair Netanyahu, son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, launched a scathing attack on French President Emmanuel Macron after Macron suggested Paris might recognise a Palestinian state "without Hamas."
Late Saturday, Yair reposted Macron’s statement on X and responded, “F*** you. Yes to independence for New Caledonia. Yes to independence for French Polynesia. Yes to independence for Corsica. Yes to independence for the Basque region. Yes to independence for French Guiana. Stop the new French imperialism in West Africa.”
Macron had written, “This is France’s position, and it is clear: yes to peace, yes to Israel’s security, yes to a Palestinian state without Hamas.”
He added, “This requires the release of all hostages, a lasting ceasefire [in Gaza], immediate resumption of humanitarian aid, and pursuit of a two-state solution.”
Macron stressed that “the only possible path is political,” affirming his support for “the legitimate right of Palestinians to a state and peace, just as I support Israelis’ right to live in peace and security, with both recognised by their neighbours.”
He noted that the upcoming two-state solution conference in June, co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia at the UN headquarters in New York, should mark a turning point.
Calls for a two-state solution have grown since the Gaza war erupted in October 2023, despite Israel’s firm rejection. Around 150 countries recognise the Palestinian state, with Ireland, Norway, and Spain doing so in May 2024, followed by Slovenia in June.
