Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged to deepen the strategic partnership between China and Indonesia during a phone call with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Sunday, according to Xinhua News Agency.

Xi stated that the bilateral partnership holds strategic importance and global influence, as both leaders exchanged congratulations on the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Beijing is seeking to rally international cooperation in response to U.S. tariffs recently announced by President Donald Trump.

Xi is scheduled to visit Vietnam, Malaysia, and Cambodia starting Monday to strengthen ties with China’s closest neighbours amid rising trade tensions with Washington.
