Hamas has condemned the Israeli bombing of the Baptist Hospital in Gaza City—where Israeli warplanes destroyed the reception and emergency departments and displaced patients and the wounded—calling it a new war crime in the ongoing series of brutal attacks on the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, the movement said this crime confirms that Israel is operating under American cover and complicity, amid the complete paralysis of all international accountability mechanisms. Hamas held the US administration fully responsible for the brutal attack on the hospital, saying it would not have occurred without Washington’s green light.

The movement called on the international community, the United Nations, and Arab and Islamic countries to take immediate action to stop what it described as blatant violations of international law.

According to Al Jazeera’s correspondent, the Baptist Hospital in Gaza City went out of service following an Israeli airstrike early Sunday. Patients and the wounded were forced to lie in the surrounding streets.

The reporter added that an Israeli airstrike, involving two missiles, directly targeted the hospital’s reception and emergency departments, completely destroying the building and leaving dozens of injured patients with no shelter.
