The Jordan Customs Department foiled an attempt to smuggle 650 kilograms of hashish through the King Hussein Bridge, according to the department’s spokesperson.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the spokesperson said that customs personnel at the King Hussein Bridge Customs Centre, in cooperation with the Anti-Narcotics Department and other security agencies, intercepted a shipment of building stones arriving in Jordan, in which the drugs were concealed in the form of bricks.

Following suspicions about the shipment, a thorough inspection was conducted, leading to the discovery of the narcotics hidden inside the stones. The drugs were seized and a formal report was filed in preparation for legal action by the Anti-Narcotics Department.

The Jordan Customs Department stressed that its staff at border customs centres work closely with other security and regulatory agencies in an ongoing effort to combat all forms of smuggling, particularly narcotics, due to their direct impact on national economic and social security.
