Al Jazeera bureau chief Walid Al-Omari announced Monday that the Qatari channel has been permitted to resume operations in the Palestinian territories starting Tuesday, after months of suspension by the Palestinian Authority.

Al-Omari told AFP: “We have been officially informed by the Palestinian Authority that our office can resume work.”

In a statement to the Foreign Press Association in Jerusalem, Al-Omari said Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas decided to lift the ban on Al Jazeera and allow its teams to resume their activities as of Tuesday morning.

A Palestinian official source confirmed the decision to AFP.

The Palestinian Authority had suspended Al Jazeera’s broadcasts and operations on January 1, accusing the channel of “inciting division” and “persistently broadcasting misleading content and reports.”
