In a bid to bridge academic learning with real-world application, students from the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering at Amman Ahliyya University visited Global Seeds Jordan (GLSE), a leading company in the production and development of improved seeds.
The field visit included students enrolled in courses on seed production technology, plant physiology, plant biotechnology, and plant breeding and improvement. They were accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Dr Rasha Tarawneh, and the department head, Dr Lana Qaddoumi.
The delegation was welcomed by GLSE CEO Samah Salem and a team of agricultural technology specialists. The visit featured a comprehensive tour of the company’s research and development labs, seed processing units, and agricultural trial stations.
Students observed key stages in high-quality seed production and learned about modern techniques used to enhance plant genetic traits. The tour also introduced them to molecular diagnostics and genetic analysis tools applied in crop development.
Engineers provided in-depth explanations on the role of biotechnology in advancing food security and crop resilience, engaging with students’ questions and helping them link theoretical concepts with industry practice.
Students expressed enthusiasm for the visit, noting the valuable insights and hands-on exposure it provided. The tour concluded with discussions on future collaboration, with university staff thanking the company for its hospitality and educational support.
