More than 100,000 Syrian refugees have voluntarily returned from Jordan to Syria between 8 December 2024 and 30 June 2025, according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

UNHCR spokesperson Yousef Taha told Al-Mamlaka TV that the uptick in returns is due to improved security and economic conditions in Syria, the lifting of sanctions, and the end of the school year in Jordan.

Taha said the number is expected to increase further after the conclusion of high school final exams.

He also stressed that UNHCR still requires more funding to continue providing essential services to refugees in Jordan.

As of 1 July 2025, UNHCR data shows that 560,452 individuals are registered as refugees and asylum seekers in Jordan—81.3% living in urban areas (455,832) and 18.7% in camps (104,620).
