The Public Security Directorate and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) have signed a “Working Arrangement” aimed at supporting EU member states and Jordan in preventing and combating serious and organised crime, as well as terrorism.
The arrangement sets a legal framework for cooperation and the exchange of non-personal information between Europol and Jordanian law enforcement agencies. It will enable both sides to collaborate on issues such as migrant smuggling, drug trafficking, money laundering, and firearms smuggling.
The agreement also includes provisions for sharing specialised expertise, general situation reports, strategic analysis outcomes, and participating in training activities, along with offering advice and support for individual criminal investigations.
Under the arrangement, Jordan’s Public Security Directorate will designate a national contact point to facilitate cooperation with Europol. It also allows for the possible appointment of a liaison officer to Europol, joining a network of liaison offices representing law enforcement authorities from over 50 countries.
